At WhatsOnStage, we’re always striving to bring you as much video content as humanly possible, whether it’s from the rehearsal room, on the red carpet, or backstage.

We’ve been lucky enough to film with a multitude of stars along the way – from Sarah Jessica Parker and David Tennant to Vanessa Williams and Sigourney Weaver – and we hope you’ve enjoyed our in-depth looks behind the curtain of theatre-making from across the West End and beyond.

Let’s take a little trip down memory lane with 24 of our favourite videos of 2024 (and a whole lot more embedded in the hyperlinks below)…

In January, we caught up with SJP and husband Matthew Broderick at the Savoy Theatre for the West End transfer of Plaza Suite

In February, all eyes were on the 24th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards at The London Palladium and you can relive the full highlights below… We also attended a couple of star-studded opening nights, grabbing chats with Bob Geldof at Just For One Day and Matt Smith at An Enemy of the People and celebrating the West End premieres of Hadestown and Standing at the Sky’s Edge

In March, we took a trip cross the big pond with Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) stars Sam Tutty and Dujonna Gift as we spent 36 hours with the stage faves in the Big Apple…

When April came around, it was time for WhatsOnStage to head back to the Royal Albert Hall, as we celebrated the Olivier Awards and congratulated all the winners, from Sarah Snook and Nicole Scherzinger to Andrew Scott! Check out our highlights below…

April also saw us heading into the rehearsal room ahead of the world premiere of 42 Balloons at the Lowry and Salford and filming with Sheridan Smith as the VIP attendees posed the questions on the opening night of… well, Opening Night. We also released our first edition of “West End vs Broadway” for 2024. Watch Melanie La Barrie and Jon Jon Briones talk all things Hadestown in the video below (and check out our Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Wicked episodes, which were released later in the year, or our first-ever “West End vs South Korea” version, featuring stars from Your Lie in April, via the embedded links).

In May, WhatsOnStage entered the monochrome world of The Artist, as we sat down with director/co-adaptor Drew McOnie, Gary Wilmott, Robbie Fairchild and Briana Craig, as we produced our first-ever black and white feature ahead of the show’s world premiere at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

We also checked in to Fawlty Towers to get the lowdown from writer John Cleese and the cast of the West End premiere stage adaptation of the much-loved British sitcom…

When June was bustin’ out all over the UK, we headed backstage at the London Coliseum for an exclusive puppetry demonstration with Spirited Away creative team members Toby Olié and Daisy Beattie…

We also sat down with Broadway legend Stephanie J Block, Line of Duty standout Adrian Dunbar and stage faves Charlie Stemp and Georgina Onuorah with a handful of Kiss Me, Kate-themed questions in tow…

WhatsOnStage was also invited into the rehearsal room to sit down with Kit Harington, Olivia Washington, Fisayo Akinade and fellow castmates ahead of the West End premiere of Slave Play…

And if that wasn’t enough for the month of June, we also attended the (very pink) opening night of Mean Girls in the West End with Tina Fey (which you can watch below), and produced features on Babies the Musical, Next to Normal and the UK and Ireland tour of & Juliet

July was another busy month for video shoots, so let’s get the ball rolling (or rollerskating) with our opening night video for Starlight Express…

Next stop, Milan! Yes, WhatsOnStage went all continental as we hung out with acclaimed Italian performer Arturo Brachetti ahead of his return to the Edinburgh Fringe…

And we launched a brand-new series under the banner of “Getting to Know You”, devoted to fresh faces making a big impact on UK stages. We kicked things off with Back to the Future‘s Vasco Emauz (which you can watch below, and followed it up with episodes dedicated to Mamma Mia!‘s Izi Maxwell and Hadestown‘s Dylan Wood later in the year)…

We also staged a little get-together for two Heather Chandlers, as Jodie Steele and Esme Bowdler had a tête-à-tête, and we also soaked up the atmosphere at The London Palladium for the opening night of Hello, Dolly! starring Imelda Staunton…

In August, we paid another visit to the Kit Kat Club, this time to bid “Willkommen” to stars Layton Williams, Rhea Norwood, Sally Ann Triplett and Fenton Gray with a bunch of Cabaret musical number-themed questions…

Before the sun set on summer 2024, we also squeezed in an opening night shoot at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre with Fiddler on the Roof

Sticking with the opening nights theme, September brought us Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow‘s new musical Why Am I So Single?

…and the Ben Whishaw and Lucian Msamti-led revival of Waiting for Godot (which you can watch below). We also chatted with director-choreographer Craig Revel Horwood and some ’80s icons ahead of the world premiere tour of NOW That’s What I Call A Musical, celebrated the tenth anniversary of The Play That Goes Wrong in true mischievous style and met two real-life brothers (Ashley and Mitchell Zhangazha) who play the father-son combination of Joseph and Michael Jackson in MJ the Musical

October was a very star-studded month as WhatsOnStage sat down with David Tennant and Cush Jumbo at the opening night for the West End transfer of Macbeth, which you can watch below, as well as The Fear of 13‘s Adrien BrodyDr Strangelove‘s Steve Coogan and Barcelona star Lily Collins, which you can watch via the embedded links…

In November, we celebrated the London debut of Percy Jackson with The Lightning Thief musical and visited rehearsals at the National Theatre for the current world premiere production of Ballet Shoes

And finally, we arrive in December. WhatsOnStage was invited to the special gala night performance of The Devil Wears Prada, attended by Elton John, Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace and a host of other celebrities…

We also sat down with some of the stars of the National’s revival of The Importance of Being Earnest and filmed at the opening nights of Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 and The Tempest starring Sigourney Weaver…

And last but not least, we took a trip to Curve in Leicester, where current My Fair Lady stars Molly Lynch, David Seadon-Young and Minal Patel announced the nominees for the 25th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards, set to take place on Sunday, 9 February 2025 at The London Palladium!

We hope you’ve enjoyed looking back on all these highlights from the past 12 months as much as we’ve enjoyed producing them for you. Stay tuned for more lights, camera, action in 2025!
