Rumours have it that veteran physical theatre performer Linda Marlowe has recently celebrated her seventieth birthday. Yet winding down her career is not on the master plan. Always up for a challenge, Marlowe has set herself one seemingly insurmountable one: to play Hamlet accompanied by six puppeteers whilst voicing all of the characters and doing some of the puppetry.

The nightmarish choreographic complexity seems to be a simmering worry when we meet in her dressing room at Watford Palace Theatre. She has completed one preview and confidence is steadily being built. Marlowe claims she annually vows never to return to Edinburgh but is always tempted back.

Linda Marlow can be seen in My Hamlet at Assembly @ George Street, 5-29 August at 17.20
