Well, according to a new survey, yes they will! New research suggests that in the current recession, more people are likely to buy tickets to see the performing arts than spend money on sports events or video games.

The poll was conducted by agency ICM, who interviewed a random sample of over 1,000 adults across the UK. The most popular non-essential expenditure at the present time was shown to be eating out (27%), with buying tickets to a concert, play, opera or ballet coming second with 16% of the vote. Computer games got 12%, digital TV packages 9% while tickets to a sports match or new mobile phone got a lowly 7% each.

It’s not all good news though – over 500 of those surveyed said they were most likely to do none of the above. However, 53% conceded that is was important to support the arts during a recession.
