Belinda plays Palace Judy Garland in ”Through the Mill” at the Southwark Playhouse
Belinda Wollaston is currently playing Palace Judy in Through the Mill, a biographical jukebox musical about the life and times of Judy Garland. Her previous theatre credits include Mamma Mia!, Titanic and Putting It Together.
Belinda took us backstage at Southwark Playhouse to show us around.
BW: On opening night Helen Sheals, who plays CBS Judy, was given Ann Miller's old earring from Easter Parade. She wore it when she was working alongside Judy in the film. Helen lets me hold on to it because I like to feel her energy.
BW: This is Lea Steedman – she’s our wig dresser and overall fairy godmother! She goes above and beyond the call of duty and we are all so grateful to her and love her so much.
BW: This is my corner of the dressing room, I like it because I can hide and be messy. I like organised chaos because it calms me and I find it really gets my creative mind flowing.
BW:'' This is one of the many books I've read about Judy, but this is my favourite because it has so much information than a lot of other biographies don't have. It also has amazing pics.''
BW: During the previews my cast mate Perry Meadowcroft gave me this phantom mask as a joke, because my dream is to play the Phantom of the Opera. It's just a little reminder that 'the dreams that you dare to dream… really do come true.'
BW: I wear my mother's wedding ring on stage. I wear it as the wedding ring that Minelli gave to Judy. It holds a lot of meaning and I feel close to my mum wearing it. She's in Australia so I feel like I bring her on stage with me every night.
Through the Mill runs at Southwark Playhouse until 13 July.
