The West End transfer of Wet Weather Cover, the playwriting debut by actor Oliver Cotton, has closed at the Arts Theatre. Its last performance was given on Monday 12 April 2010. The closure was only confirmed last night, with theatregoers arriving for the evening performance to be told that it – and the rest of the run – had been cancelled.
Wet Weather Cover, which starred Michael Brandon (in his first London stage appearance since Jerry Springer The Opera) and comedian Steve Furst, opened on 6 April at the Arts, where it had been booking through to 5 June. It premiered at the fringe King’s Head Theatre in a sell-out season from 28 January to 21 February 2010 (previews from 20 January).
On the set of an epic movie, delayed by torrential rain while on location in Spain, two actors are trapped in a leaking trailer. A Brit (Furst) and a Yank (Brandon) battle it out over issues of status, ego and assumptions of national identity.
The production also marked the directorial debut of another actor, Kate Fahy, wife of Jonathan Pryce. It was designed by Tanya McCallin, with Pepe Balderrama also in the cast.
