Way back in 2007 Whatsonstage.com reported that Samuel Adamson was penning a musical for the National Theatre with music from American singer-songwriter Tori Amos. Almost three years down the line, we hear that the show has just had its first workshop at the NT, led by Marianne Elliott. Apparently, puppetry was one of the focal points of exploration during the workshop, suggesting that this could follow in the hoof prints of the National’s massively successful War Horse (which Elliott co-directed). The new musical is based on George MacDonald’s 1864 fairy tale The Light Princess and is due to premiere in the Lyttelton Theatre in 2012.
