The Winter's Tale at Shakespeare's Globe to be broadcast to cinemas

Blanche McIntyre's production of The Winter's Tale at Shakespeare's Globe will be broadcast live to over 400 cinemas around the UK and Europe in October.

The production, which features design by James Perkins and composition by Isobel Waller-Bridge, stars Will Keen as Leontes alongside Annette Badland as Old Shepherd, Priyanga Burford as Hermione, Sirine Saba as Paulina and Oliver Ryan as Polixenes.

They are joined by Adrian Bower, Norah Lopez-Holden, Howard Ward, Zora Bishop, Becci Gemmell, Luke MacGregor, Jordan Metcalfe and Rose Wardlaw.

In her review for WhatsOnStage, Daisy Bowie-Sell said: "Blanche McIntyre directs Shakespeare's notoriously tricky-toned tragedy with such a level hand and head that it's hard to notice when the play swerves from high tragedy to happily ever after."

The Winter's Tale is one of Shakespeare's problem plays, filled with psychological drama, exploring rage, love, grief and forgiveness. The production continues artistic director Michelle Terry's first season at the South Bank venue, which will also see André Holland and Mark Rylance star in Othello, directed by Claire van Kampen.

"Live broadcasts allow us to share these plays, performed in our unique and iconic theatre, with an even wider audience, reaching people who may not be able to reach us, and bringing Shakespeare's stories to the big screen in all their vibrancy and immediacy."
