After a successful stint in Trevor Nunn‘s production of A Little Night Music last year, we hear that Hannah Waddingham could be set to continue her Sondheim connection by starring in the Open Air Theatre’s forthcoming revival of Into the Woods (See News, 10 Sep 2009).
Waddingham is apparently in talks to play the Witch, with another West End name, Scarlett Strallen, in line to play Cinderella.
Both actresses bring with them plenty of experience – prior to her critically acclaimed performance in Night Music, Waddingham made a splash as the Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, while Strallen’s credits include playing the title role in Mary Poppins in the West End (twice) and on Broadway.
Hannah Waddingham will be singing from A Little Night Music at the forthcoming Whatsonstage.com Awards Concert (See News, 2 Feb 2010). Strallen definitely won’t be attending the event (which takes place on 14 February at the Prince of Wales Theatre), as it clashes with her wedding – a pretty good excuse, really!
