According to sources, Ian Fricker is set to produce George Bernard Shaw’s Candida in London next year. Peter Hall is rumoured to be directing, taking the show first to the Rose Theatre in Kingston and then to the West End in the summer.

Fricker’s previous producing credits include Visiting Mr Green, which starred Warren Mitchell at Trafalgar Studios in 2008 (See News, 25 Mar 2008).

One of Shaw’s “Plays Pleasant” (which also included Arms and the Man), in Candida,
the Reverend James Morrell has the perfect wife, the perfect family and
the perfect home. But when a young poet falls passionately in love with
his beautiful Candida, Morrell’s idealistic world is turned upside
down.

Its last major revival was the Oxford Stage Company’s 100th anniversary production in 2004 (See News, 25 May 2004).
