Younger audiences can enjoy a magical Christmas at the Royal Exchange Studio when award-winning theatre company Horse+Bamboo returns to the venue with a classic tale later this month – Red Riding Hood.
A young girl, a hungry wolf and a walk through the woods – it sounds like a recipe for disaster, but Red Riding Hood isn’t scared…
Using Horse+Bamboo’s trademark puppetry, musical talents and story-telling skills, this new show blends exquisite visuals with pantomime silliness and spooky moments to create an engrossing piece of theatre suitable with lots of twists and surprises along the way.
Suitable for children aged 4+, this new version of the timeless girl-and-the-wolf tale continues the RET’s successful relationship with Horse+Bamboo, whose previous successful shows at the Exchange include this year’s sell-out Storm In a Teacup, the world premiere of Little Leap Forward, and In The Shadow of Trees.
Founded in 1978 by its current Artistic Director, Bob Frith, and based in Rossendale, Lancashire, Horse+Bamboo make visual theatre, which they tour from regional to international venues, art centres and festivals. Music and story-telling is central to the company’s productions; using masks, movement, puppetry, film, and lighting to present multi-sensory creations for children.
Horse+Bamboo have been touring Red Riding Hood from September 2011 and will visit over 26 venues across the UK and Ireland, including the Babaro International Arts Festival for Children in Galway. The current UK tour comes to an end in March 2012 and reaches the RET in Manchester from 14 – 31 December.
