What You Will is a 90-minute gallop through
all things Shakespearean, with Rees telling stories from his own life, discussing his favourite Shakespearean actors plus performing some of the Bard’s most famous soliloquies.
Following the show, we were joined by Rees for a Q&A.
He talked about the origins of the show in America, and its development. He then told us about his first audition for the Royal Shakespeare Company on the same stage where he is now performing his solo show.
He discussed Shakespearean roles that he still wants to play, and talked about what it’s like performing a solo show as opposed to a show with a company of others. He then discussed how performances of Shakespeare’s work has changed over the years, and how it is still changing now.
Finally, he talked about Nicholas Nickleby, one of the roles he is most well known for, as well as telling us about his time in America, and about Peter and the Starcatcher, the Broadway show that he co-directed, which could be heading for London soon.
