A musical based on the songs of veteran crooner Neil Sedaka (See News, 20 Nov 2009) could be winging its way to the West End later in the year.

Written by Philip Norman, Laughter In The Rain kicks off a regional tour at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley on 1 March 2010, before, according to the Daily Mail recently, “producers Laurie Mansfield and Bill Kenwright bring it into the West End”.

Mansfield and Kenwright may well by buoyed by the success of Dreamboats and Petticoats, which they successfully transferred to the West End last year and is currently running at the Playhouse Theatre (See News, 16 Nov 2009).

Laughter In The Rain promises a “brand new show based on the rise, fall and rise again of pop music’s ultimate survivor… Neil Sedaka”, and draws from Sedaka’s plethora of hits including “Oh, Carol”, “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”, “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen”, “Solitaire”, “Calendar Girl”, “Amarillo” and “Laughter in the Rain”.
