Following recent news that the BBC is cancelling its popular costume drama Lark Rise to Candleford, a new stage version is stepping in to give fans their fix.

The new musical version is produced by New Perspectives theatre company, and will tour the Oxfordshire region from 2 March to 22 May 2011. According to press material, the adaptation features “12 new and traditional folk songs and the cast will play all the instruments”.

Lark Rise To Candleford tells the story of three closely related Oxfordshire communities – a hamlet, the nearby village and a small market town – based on author Flora Thompson’s own experiences at the end of the 19th century.

The cast comprises Ruth Westley (as Laura), Morgan Philpott and Kate Adams. The director/adaptor is New Perspectives artistic director Daniel Buckroyd. The musical director is Matt Marks, with set construction by Tim Brierley and lighting by Oliver Brown.
