McEwan Keen for Operatic Atonement???

Booker-winner Ian McEwan is apparently developing an opera adaptation of Atonement, his 2001 novel that was adapted for the big screen with Keira Knightley and James MacAvoy. McEwan said in a public discussion held on 18 March in London that he is working on the project with composer Michael Berkeley and librettist and poet Craig Raine. Last year, McEwan penned the libretto for chamber opera For You, also composed by Berkeley (the pair previously collaborated on a 1982 oratorio called Or Shall We Die?). According to Variety, no production timeline has been confirmed, but
McEwan said there have been discussions with opera troupes in the US,
England and Germany for a potential 2013 premiere.
