Last week came news of the country’s first fully-functioning recycled theatre, the non-permanent Jellyfish being built this summer in Southwark. This week it’s time to recycle the costumes as well. At the West End’s Comedy Theatre, the ‘Recycled Comedy’ Exhibition showcases replica costumes from past productions that have played at the theatre, made entirely from recycled and recyclable materials by front of house, management, crew and box office staff. Each costume sits in its own ‘environment’ which is complemented with light and sound. The new exhibition will be visited tomorrow by Mark Rylance, who – after his Olivier Award-winning success in Jerusalem – returns to the stage this month in La Bete, which co-stars Joanna Lumley and David Hyde Pierce and starts performances at the Comedy on 26 June.
