Stars of stage and screen have recounted their favourite memories of the Old Vic Theatre in a celebration of the venue’s 192nd birthday for the forthcoming edition of Harper’s Bazaar. Stories shared about the Lambeth theatre, which has been led by artistic director Kevin Spacey since 2003, include accounts of American singer and actress Courtney Love performing in an Old Vic fundraising gala dressed as a duck, being watched from the wings by legendary actor Peter O’Toole. Judi Dench, who first appeared at the theatre in a 1957 production of Hamlet, is also quoted in the piece, which will appear in the September 6 edition of the magazine, saying: “Everything I learned in the theatre, I really learned in those four years at the Old Vic.”
