Soon-to-be theatre owner Michael Grade and the actor and writer Julian Fellowes are amongst 54 political benefactors and other figures appointed today (19 November 2010) to be Life Peers in the House of Lords. They are likely to take their seats on the Conservative benches of the House of Lords later this year. Grade is a former chairman of both the BBC and ITV plc. Last month he led a consortium which bought four West End theatres from Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Really Useful Group. Fellowes wrote the book for the stage adaptation of Mary Poppins, won an Oscar-for the screenplay of Gosford Park, and most recently penned ITV’s hit costume drama Downton Abbey.
