Full casting announced for The Iphigenia Quartet at The Gate

Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of The Iphigenia Quartet, which opens at The Gate Theatre in May.

The classic Greek story of Iphigenia at Aulis will be retold by four British playwrights. The production will be performed as a pair of double bills alternating throughout the run to allow audiences to gain a full perspective – Agamemnon and Clytemnestra will play in rep with Iphigenia and Chorus.

Casting for Agamemnon includes Andrew French (Bully Boy, Julius Caesar) as Agamemnon, Nigel Barratt (Every One, Mad Man) as Menelaus, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Clytemnestra (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hope Babies) and Louise McMenemy (See Bob Run) as Messenger. The cast will also all play Voice in Chorus.

In Iphigenia and Clytemnestra, Shannon Tarbet (Hotel, A View from the Bridge) will play Iphigenia and Maid, Susie Trayling ( The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead, The Crucible) will play Clytemnestra and Professor, Dwane Walcott (Hamlet, The Twits) will play Achilles and Soldier and Anthony Barclay (Anna Karenina, Road) will play Agamemnon and Director.

Agamemnon is written by Caroline Bird and directed by Christopher Haydon, Clytemnestra by Lulu Raczka, directed by Jennifer Tang, Iphigenia by Suhayla El-Bushra, directed by Rebecca Hill and Chorus by Chris Thorpe, directed by Elayce Ismail.

The Iphigenia Quartet opens at the Gate Theatre on 3 May and runs until 21 May.
