Five reasons to see… Hansel and Gretel

1. Premiere of this adaptation of a favourite Grimm fairytale. This is the first opportunity for anyone to see our version of the Brothers Grimm tale. Our theatre company was only formed only last year, and we’re really excited to be presenting our first production in which you can see how we have taken lots of versions of the classic story and added our own ideas.

2. You will get to join Hansel and Gretel on their adventure. Each performance is unique. This site specific piece at the Friends Meeting House, Brighton lets families join Hansel and Gretel on their journey from their little cottage through the wood to the witch’s house. There will be lots of things to get involved with along the way, for all ages.

3. It is created collaboratively by a talented group of young practitioners. We think that all elements of performance are equally important in stimulating young people’s imaginations. You will see the beautiful set designed by Kitty Callister, hear music composed by Mark Dickman, and enjoy the story, which will be retold by our amazing performers, Sophie Carmichael, Danny Lawson and Freya Wynn Jones, who directed the devising process.

4. Best way to spend Bank Holiday weekend. Come and spend a beautiful, sunny (?!) weekend by the sea and, after seeing our show, appreciate the other, many and varied, cultural experiences that are part of the Brighton Fringe.

5. There are surprises in store! The beauty about a Grimm fairytale is that everything is not as you would perhaps expect. This production of Hansel and Gretel weaves the twisting tapestry of the children’s encounter with a very cruel and unusual witch and there are a few surprises for all!

Hansel and Gretel by Teapot Theatre is being performed at the Friends Meeting House in The Lanes on 5 – 7 May at 2pm, 5 – 6 May at 4pm and 7 May at Midday.
