Emilia in the West End cast announced

Further casting has been announced for the West End transfer of Morgan Lloyd Malcolm's Emilia, which opens in March at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Adelle Leonce (Amadeus) joins the previously announced Nadia Albina, Anna Andresen, Jackie Clune, Saffron Coomber (who plays Emilia 1), Jenni Maitland, Clare Perkins (who plays Emilia 3), Carolyn Pickles, Sarah Seggari, Sophie Stone, Charity Wakefield, Amanda Wilkin and Tanika Yearwood. Leonce will be playing Emilia 2 in the show.

The role of Emilia 2 was played by Vinette Robinson at the Shakespeare's Globe last summer, where the production had its world premiere and ran for 11 performances.

Emilia is based on the life of writer, teacher and poet Emilia Bassano, who was one of literature's first female voices and believed to be 'the Dark Lady' of Shakespeare's sonnets. It is directed by Nicole Charles with set and costume by Joanna Scotcher, movement by Anna Morrissey, lighting by Zoe Spurr, sound by Emma Laxton, composition by Luisa Gerstein and musical direction by Yshani Perinpanayagam.

Michelle Terry, artistic director of the theatre, commissioned Malcolm to write the play in 2017 which opened to positive reactions, including four stars from WhatsOnStage with the review saying the show was an "outright feminist triumph and a brilliant call-to-arms."

The show runs from 8 March to 15 June, with over 12,000 tickets available at £25 in all areas of the theatre.
