A funny and tender new play about the last few years of Fred Dibnah’s eventful life, researched in collaboration with Fred’s wife and some of his closest friends, is currently in the development stages at the Octagon Theatre Bolton, showing in April of next year.

This brand new play by Aelish Michael is a celebration of Bolton’s most famous son, who went from engineer and steeplejack to local hero, celebrated broadcaster and national institution. Dibnah fans can now follow the ‘making of’ The Demolition Man from start to finish via this blog, following Aelish as she works with the Octagon Theatre’s Artistic Director David Thacker, who will be directing the play. The blog will also include news such as casting information, revealing who will play this local legend.

“It really is an amazing experience to write a brand new play and then see it come to life on stage” says writer Aelish Michael “Fred Dibnah was such an inspiring man, a real national institution. This production aims to reflect that, celebrating his life and providing a fitting tribute whilst also looking behind the public persona.”

The Demolition Man is at the Octagon from Thursday 7 April – Saturday 7 May 2011. Tickets are from £9.50 on 01204 520661, or here.
