Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe – who won the Whatsonstage.com Best Newcomer Award for his West End debut last year in Equus and last night impressed New York critics in the play’s Broadway transfer – hopes to be back on the boards here soon. According to today’s Daily Mail, Radcliffe aims to return to the London stage in a new play, as opposed to a revival, in two years’ time.

Producer David Pugh, who presented Equus here and will work with Radcliffe on his next London stage project, is looking at commissioning up to four writers to give the actor a range of new play choices. However, he told columnist Baz Bamigboye, that Radcliffe’s next outing may be at an Off-West End venue like the Bush – at least to start with.

Pugh told the newspaper that Radcliffe “wants to be actively involved with the writer or writers and he sees the theatre as a place he wants to perform on a regular basis …. He’s not going to be a stranger to the stage – he wants to be considered as being of the theatre.”
