Bridget O’Connor’s multi award-winning black comedy The Flags opens at Royal Court Liverpool in two weeks. Manchester’s Royal Exchange artistic director Greg Hersov will be visiting the Court for the first time to direct the show following two sell out runs in two years at the Exchange.
The two main characters are lifeguards JJ (Schofield) and Howie (Owens) and their beach has been voted the second worst in Ireland. They are looking to get away from this deserted stretch and are applying for two vacant posts at the prestigious Banna Strand beach. They must impress Brendan (Cunningham), the director of Leisure Services, to win the post but their chances won’t be helped by the unstable jilted bride Ursula (Regan) who is hunting for a stretch of beach where she can end it all.
The Flags runs from 29 May to 27 June 2009.
