Theatre 503’s new season will feature the European premiere of Australian playwright Ron Elisha’s Man in the Middle, centring on WikiLeads founder Julian Assange.

The play, which runs from 10 January to 3 February 2012, is directed by Lucy Skilbeck and stars original Australian cast member Darren Weller as Assange. It premiered in Sydney earlier this year, when it went under the title Julian Assange: The Stainless Steel Rat.

A co-production between Theatre503 and Cheepuk Man in the Middle is billed as “a Wikiplay that has been sourced from the public domain, and then refracted, redacted and reimagined by the playwright … It tells the story of a man who sought to out the truth at any cost.”

The new season also features an original Theatre503 production, This Year will be Different (3 to 7 January), which explores New Year rituals. Six playwrights will be paired with talented visual artists from the fields of video, animation and illustration to create a series of short pieces of theatre that focus on visual storytelling.

The season concludes with the premiere of Kefi Chadwick’s Mathematics of the Heart (7 February to 3 March), centring on a professor of Chaos Theory who specialises in storm patterns.
