Rumour has it that Broadway and Hollywood grande dame Angela Lansbury is keen to make her “final stage appearance” in the West End.
The British-born actress, 83, is apparently keen to revive her Tony Award-winning performance as Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit in London, but only at the Haymarket Theatre Royal, where her mother, also an actress, once performed.
According to the Daily Mail, Lansbury “has told friends and associates that she doesn’t need to come to London … but feels it would ‘complete the circle’ if she did Blithe Spirit at the Haymarket as a way of honouring her mother, and ending her stage career on a high note.”
An ‘insider’ at the Haymarket told the Mail‘s Baz Bamigboye that the theatre would “love” to host Blithe Spirit, as long as they can fit it into their already tight schedule – a production of Three Sisters starring Gwyneth Paltrow is already rumoured to be lined up for early next year (See The Goss, 9 May 2009).
