Luke Evans clearly made an impression on Kylie Minogue when he appeared last autumn in her friend and stylist William Baker’s reinvention of Broadway musical Rent, which marked Baker’s theatre directing debut (See 1st Night Photos, 16 Oct 2007). The diminutive pop princess was on hand at the Donmar Warehouse last night (15 April 2008, previews from 10 April) to cheer the actor on in his latest stage endeavour, a revival of Peter Gill’s 1976 four-hander Small Change (See News, 4 Mar 2008).

Evans and Matt Ryan play boyhood friends from 1950s Cardiff in a play that examines both their own relationship and their relationships with their mothers, played by Lindsey Coulson and Sue Johnston, over many years. The production, directed by the author and designed by Anthony Ward, continues until 31 May 2008.
