Ghost The Musical, the screen-to-stage adaptation of the 1990 film, was launched in spectacular fashion on Thursday (18 November 2010) as the principal cast, Richard Fleeshman (Sam), Caissie Levy (Molly), Sharon D Clark (Oda Mae Brown) and Andrew Langtree (Carl), performed songs from the show in Abbey Road Studios.

The performances were accompanied by a band led by the show’s composers, Eurthymics’ frontman Dave Stewart and Grammy winner Glenn Ballard, with the show’s producer Colin Ingram also introducing the Oscar-winning author of the original screenplay, and now musical book writer Bruce Joel Rubin.

Following a seven-week tryout in Manchester, Ghost The Musical opens at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre on 19 July 2011 (previews from 22 June). The premiere production is directed by Matthew Warchus, who could not attend the event due to rehearsals for the RSC’s production of Matilda which opens in Stratford on 9 December (previews from 9 November 2010).

Speaking to Whatsonstage.com after the event, producer Colin Ingram revealed that 1955 pop hit “Unchained Melody”, which has been a number one hit in the UK charts four times, will feature in the show. Ingram said the song had been included in the musical from its inception, with hopes that it might make its way back into the Top 10.

We spoke to all four of the show’s principals and producer Colin Ingram after the event about what is involved in bringing such a popular 90’s film to the stage.
