As first reported by Whatsonstage.com way back in 2003, it looks like hit 2002 film Bend it Like Beckham could finally receive a musical makeover.
The film’s director Gurinder Chadha told the Daily Telegraph recently: “The script is ready to go. It’s going to be on both the West End and
Broadway. We are currently deciding who is the right person to write the
score, so it’s at a really exciting stage.”
Bend it Like Beckham, which starred Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Myers and Parminder Nagra, centres on the daughter of orthodox Sikh parents who has ambitions to be a footballer.
Producer Sonia Friedman is believed to be behind the project, no doubt hoping to replicate her recent success with another screen-to-stage musical, the Whatsonstage.com Award-winning Legally Blonde.
