An adaptation of Hamlet penned by The Tiger Lillies, cult band behind Olivier-winner Shockheaded Peter, is coming to the Southbank Centre.
The show strips down Shakespeare’s tragedy to two hours, and incorporates the band’s Brechtian song-cycle, led by singer Martyn Jacques as the ghost of infinite jester Yorick.
After premiering, aptly enough, in Denmark, the show toured Europe before landing in London for a run from 18 to 21 September 2012.
The performance is a collaboration between The Tiger Lillies and Theatre Republique, a company funded in part by the Danish government. The show applies the band’s usual shadowy vaudeville style to the classic, incorporating circus acts, giant puppets and video projections.
