Catherine McCormack, Alison Steadman and Stephanie Cole are lined up to feature in Sir Peter Hall’s annual summer repertory season at the Theatre Royal Bath. According to the Daily Mail, McCormack – whose recent West End credits include The Lady from Dubuque and The 39 Steps – will star in two of Hall’s own productions: Nicki Frei’s new adaptation of Henry James’ classic 1881 novel The Portrait of a Lady, previously scheduled for last year (See News, 12 Apr 2007), and Ibsen’s 1879 classic A Doll’s House.
Cole is due to play Maud, an eccentric old woman whose children try to persuade her to move from her Victorian house into a modern duplex, in a revival of Peter Nichols’ 1979 play. And Steadman will appear in Alan Bennett’s rarely seen 1980 play Enjoy, which revolves around a working-class family in Leeds.
