Simon Callow is bringing his one man performance of Dickens’ seasonal staple A Christmas Carol back to the Arts Theatre for a festive run.
Based on the novelist’s own performance version, the show “breathes new life into the entire colourful cast and placing the words centre stage”. Directed and designed by Tom Cairns – who also directed Callow in Being Shakespeare – A Christmas Carol runs from 29 November 2012 to 6 January 2013.
According to press, A Christmas Carol “was the first play that Callow ever saw and his virtuoso performance palpably demonstrates his deep affection for Dickens.” Callow’s other one man plays include The Mystery of Charles Dickens and Dr Marigold and Mr Chops.
He has also guest starred as Dickens in Doctor Who in 2005 and 2011 and published a biography of the novelist in February 2012, Charles Dickens and the Great Theatre of the World. On screen, Callow is best known for roles in Four Weddings and A Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, Room with a View and Amadeus.
