Orange Tree Theatre announces new season 2019
The Orange Tree Theatre has today announced the second half of its fifth season, featuring major revivals of Athol Fugard and Terence Rattigan plays.
The season begins in February with Cougar, a new play about what and who we consume by Rose Lewenstein. Chelsea Walker directs the piece following her production of Low Level Panic at the venue. The show runs from 1 February to 2 March with opening night on 5 February.
Matthew Xia is to direct a major revival of Fugard's play Blood Knot in March. The piece is set in apartheid South Africa and follows what happens when Morrie returns to Port Elizabeth to live with his brother. The show runs from 8 March to 20 April.
Following her play Jess and Joe Forever, writer Zoe Cooper returns to the theatre with Out of Water a new play which will be directed by Guy Jones. This joint commission from the RSC and the Orange Tree runs from 27 April to 1 June and is about gender and how we define who we are.
Miller will direct the first London production in a generation of Rattigan's comedy While the Sun Shines. Set during the Blitz, the play will run from 7 June to 27 July and follows what happens to the Earl of Harpenden on the eve of his wedding.
The venue's Directors' Festival runs between 2 and 10 August this year and presents four emerging directors – Ellie Goodall, Georgia Green, Wiebke Green and Gianluca Lello.
