Hit West End musical, Oliver! , has received its Yorkshire premiere at Leeds Grand Theatre.

The production of Lionel Bart’s classic features television and stage star Neil Morrissey as Fagin and Samantha Barks, a finalist in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s I’d Do Anything, as Nancy. It was choreographed by Tony award-winner Matthew Bourne, who previously worked on revivals of My Fair Lady and South Pacific.

Based on Charles Dickens’ 1838 novel, Oliver Twist , which tells the story of an orphan who falls in with a gang of young pickpockets, the production contains such well-known numbers as Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two and Food, Glorious Food.

Oliver! originally premiered in London’s West End in 1960 and Cameron Mackintosh’s revival is currently touring to theatres around the UK and Ireland.

Oliver! is at the Leeds Grand Theatre until 8 December 2012. Contact the box office on 0844 8482700, or visit www.leedsgrandtheatre.com. Details of the tour and cast changes can be found at www.oliverthemusical.com.
