A new production of King Lear from 4 – 6 October celebrates the new partnership between Hull Truck, Hull Schools and the RSC. This is the start of a three year project where the RSC will visit local Schools to improve understanding of Shakespeare and make the plays more accessible. This production is the RSC’s first ever performance at Hull Truck.
The creativity of Hull will be celebrated on one special evening – 13 October – in We Heart Hull. With music, spoken word, theatre, dance and family entertainment throughout the day, this event will celebrate all things fabulous in East Yorkshire.
The Kitchen Sink, by Kilnsea playwright Tom Wells, makes its regional premiere in a brand new production from 2 – 17 November. Fresh from its London success, Wells’ Withernsea-set family comedy returns home after winning the prestigious George Devine Award. Wells was recently announced as Hull Truck Theatre’s Associate Playwright, and won the Critics Circle award for Most Promising Playwright.
Hull Truck’s first ever community play City of Light will feature the largest cast the theatre has staged and runs from 24 August – 8 September. Local playwright Morgan Sproxton tells a heart wrenching love story against the backdrop of Europe’s largest travelling fair which visits Hull every year.
Whale Music, a collaboration with the University of Hull, is a celebration of the life and work of Anthony Minghella, who studied and taught there. Performed by current students of the University and directed by graduate Sarah Davies, this captivating drama about loyalty, motherhood and relationships runs from 13 – 15 December.
This years’ Christmas spectacular, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz runs from 7 December – 13 January and sees Dorothy reunited with old friends Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man with new songs and music as they follow the Yellow Brick Road back to Hull.
The new season at Hull Truck promises to be an exciting period of birthday festivities and new ventures; a time to be celebrated whether you are a ‘Hullensian’ or not.
