The Three Minute Theatre in Manchester is proving to be a great showcase for new fringe theatre. New play Shades of Diva is no different. We caught up with the writer and director Lloyd Eyre-Morgan to find out his five reasons why you should attend when the play arrives in June.

1. Growing up in 1978 is a drag
Be transported back to Brighton in 1978, where drag queen Diva sits on Brighton pier and takes you on a journey through her past, when she was a teenager called Adam. He just wanted to dress up and perform like his idols Cher, Bette Midler and Dolly Parton. But his mother Judy has other ideas : such as the local football team. Adam and his best friend Dylan perform and dress up like the great divas, using Judy’s clothes as costume in secret (including her knickers). One night Judy catches the boys and threatens to take Adam to hospital, that night the two boys run away to a drag club in Brighton… never to return home again.

2. Drag-tastic musical numbers
The musical numbers from the 70s will have you dancing in your seat or even in the aisles, with great pop and dance hits incorporated into the show.  We also have live music being played accompanying the musical numbers! This is going to be a fringe show not to miss!

3. The Three Minute Theatre
Shades of Diva will be premiering at The Three Minute Theatre, a new theatre space in central Manchester dedicated to promoting and producing new and original work. Dream Avenue are The Three Minute Theatres associate theatre company and have a strong working relationship with the theatre. The theatre is run by Gina Frost and John Topliff and with over 60 years performance experience between them are fully equipped to run what is becoming a new hotspot for emerging theatre and local talent. Find The Three Minute Theatre on Facebook. The theatre has a fully licensed bar.

4. Dream Avenue and The Three Minute Theatre’s 3rd Production
Our previous production Dream On had a successful sell out tour around Manchester and Liverpool and is about to be turned into a feature film coming out this summer www.dreamonthefilm.co.uk . We also had success with our last production Celluloid which was Dream Avenue’s first venture in combining film and theatre to create a new experience for audiences. With Shades of Diva we guarantee a fantastic adventure into the world of Brighton’s hidden nightlife, and the growing pains of being a teenager in 1978!

5. A great cast and compelling story.
This piece showcases some new fantastic talent in Manchester, with actors displaying both great acting and singing. The story has something for everyone to relate to whether its overpowering mothers, big dreamers or dazzling performers, we’ve got it in this show. Please come along to experience a new show like no other you’ve seen before, you’ll laugh, cry and even start singing along!

Shades of Diva runs from 6 – 9 June and tickets are available from the three minute theatre or skiddle.
