It’s never a surprise to learn of pop stars with theatrical roots – clips of a young Robbie Williams playing the Artful Dodger spring to mind. And the latest to join the club is a recent winner at the Brit Awards, rising star Jessie J, who’s already being touted as Britain’s answer to the likes of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Jessie – real name Jessica Cornish – got her first taste of the limelight in the West End, as an 11-year-old ‘brat’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Whistle Down the Wind. Speaking to the Mirror recently, she said: “I’ve done adverts and musical theatre since I was very young but as I got into my teens I wanted to be a pop star. Whistle Down The Wind was amazing and it made me grow up very quickly but my strength is my songwriting. I love to write and it’s where my talent lies.”
