Brian Friel was among the attendees at the Old Vic last night (5 March 2009, previews from 26 February) to see the opening of Anna Mackmin‘s revival of his award-winning 1990 play Dancing at Lughnasa. Other notable guests included Neve Campbell, Bob Geldof and Peter Hall.

The production marks the stage debut of Andrea Corr (pictured, with Mackmin), whose experience working alongside her siblings in pop group The Corrs must have come in handy for her role as Chris, one of the five Mundy sisters in Friel’s drama.

The cast also includes Niamh Cusack, Michelle Fairley, Simone Kirby, Susan Lynch, Finbar Lynch, Peter McDonald and Jo Stone-Fewings. The production is designed by Lez Brotherston and produced by the Old Vic, Sonia Friedman Productions and Tulchin/Bartner.
