Comedian and actor Roy Hudd is best known for his long-running BBC Radio 2 series The News Huddlines rather than West End appearances – strange considering his myriad of theatrical credits including Fagin in Oliver!, Underneath the Arches (for which he won an Olivier Award), Babes in the Woods, Hard Times, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Solid Gold Cadillac and, most recently in London, The Wizard of Oz.

This week he returns to the Garrick Theatre, as part of a stellar cast, playing Henry Ormonroyd, the photographer in JB Priestley’s comedy When We Are Married.

We meet in during a rare break from rehearsals. It is clear Hudd and the cast are having great fun with the script. Even at 74, he is quick-witted, warm and endlessly enthusiastic.

When We Are Married opens on 27 October 2010 (previews from 19 October) at the Garrick Theatre, where it’s booking for a limited run until 26 February 2011.
