Tony Honours Ayckbourn But Which Other Brits???

Nominations in this year’s Tony Awards are announced in New York on Tuesday morning (4 May 2010), or rather 1.30pm UK time. But we don’t need to see the shortlists to know that Alan Ayckbourn, the UK’s most prolific playwright, will be triumphing on the night. It’s already been announced that he’ll receive a lifetime achievement gong at the ceremony on 13 June – adding to his Critics’ Circle Award, which was presented to him in London earlier this week. But which other Brits will be in the running for US recognition? Amongst the London-to-New York transfers over the past 12 months have been the Menier Chocolate Factory musical revivals of La Cage aux Folles and A Little Night Music, the Donmar’s Jude Law-headed Hamlet and new plays Red (also care of the Donmar) and Enron.
