Before he tackles Willy Wonka at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane next summer, Douglas Hodge could be appearing on a West End stage as another iconic character – Cyrano de Bergerac.

Winning
by a nose. Douglas Hodge as Cyrano de Bergerac on Broadway

Hodge, who recently opened in Jamie Lloyd‘s production of Edmond Rostand’s play at the American Airlines theatre in New York, is widely rumoured to be reprising the role in London.

The production has been lauded by the US critics. Ben Brantley of the New York Times referred to Hodge’s performance as a “gale force”.

Speaking to the Evening Standard recently, an unnamed producer said that he/she and colleagues are “swarming like flies” in an attempt to bring Cyrano de Bergerac to London.

The only question is can the ever-busy Hodge fit it in before he swaps Bergerac’s prosthetic nose for Wonka’s hat and cane?
