Shows across London have cancelled this evening’s performance as the capital suffers its heaviest snowfall for 18 years, crippling the transport network.

Those which have already confirmed cancellations include: La Bohème, Wicked, Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, Jersey Boys, Oliver!, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Avenue Q, Complicit, Gethsemane (NT), Private Lives, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Royal Opera’s Die Tote Stadt.

A statement on the Delfont Mackintosh website confirms that tonight’s press performance of Enjoy at the Gielgud theatre is amongst the handful of shows that will go ahead as planned.

Further announcements are expected over the course of the afternoon, and ticket-holders are advised to contact venues and consult show websites before travelling.

The mass cancellations mark the first time the West End has seen such widespread action since the 7/7 bomb attacks in 2005 (See News, 7 Jul 2005), when the majority of London’s theatres were closed.

Customers are advised to contact the point of sale for refunds and exchanges.
