Amongst the major openings in London – in the West End and further afield – over the festive fortnight are:
OPENING MONDAY, the Bridewell Theatre presents a new musical version, by composer Jimmy Jewell and writer Nick Stimson, of JM Barrie’s classic adventure Peter Pan, continuing until Christmas Eve.
OPENING TUESDAY, 22 December 2009 (previews from 19 December), Richard Wilson plays Malvolio in Gregory Doran’s RSC production of Twelfth Night, co-starring Nancy Carroll, James Fleet and Alexandra Gilbreath and transferring to the Duke of York’s Theatre after its run in Stratford-upon-Avon (See News, 3 Sep 2009).
OPENING TUESDAY, the open-air Shakespeare’s Globe presents its first-ever winter production, Footsbarn’s Christmas Cracker. Billed as “a midwinter celebration of London’s rich, bawdy, pagan past” , it continues until 3 January. Warm coats and hats recommended!
OPENING TUESDAY (previews from 18 December), Cole Porter musical High Society is revived at the Upstairs at the Gatehouse Theatre in Highgate, where it continues to 31 January 2010.
OPENING WEDNESDAY, 30 December 2009, Fiona Shaw reprises her acclaimed performance of TS Eliot’s The Waste Land to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Wilton’s Music Hall, where it runs until 10 January 2010.
