Opening: Greenland, Pink Carpet, Filter Water

Amongst the major London openings, in the West End and further afield, this week are:
OPENING MONDAY, comedian Alex Horne hosts The Horne Section – a “jazz-infused comedy … part improvised, part honed, part performance, part party” – at the West End’s Lyric Theatre, where it will also run on 14, 28 February and 14, 28 March 2011.

OPENING TUESDAY, 1 February 2011 (previews from 25 January), four up-and-coming playwrights – Moira Buffini, Matt Charman, Penelope Skinner and Jack Thorne – address the issue of climate change in Greenland, which runs in rep in the NT Lyttelton until 2 April.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (previews from 27 January), Rhapsody of Words theatre company stages Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things at The Gallery Soho, where it runs to 6 March 2011. The production incorporates the setting of the art gallery into the play, and is directed by Tom Attenborough.

OPENING THURSDAY, 3 February 2011 (previews form 26 January), American TV star Leslie Jordan, whose sitcom appearances have included roles on Will & Grace and Boston Legal, brings his one-man show My Trip Down Pink Carpet to the West End’s Apollo Theatre, where it’s currently booking until 19 February.

ALSO ON THURSDAY, director David Farr’s 2007 collaboration with Filter Theatre Company, Water, is revived at the Tricycle Theatre following a run at Salisbury Playhouse. Exploring man’s desire to push himself to the limits in an increasingly unstable world of climate change, it continues until 5 March.

ALSO ON THURSDAY (previews from 1 February), the Finborough Theatre revives Emlyn Williams’ controversial 1950 play Accolade as part of RediscoveriesUK, a three month season of rediscovered homegrown plays. Centring on a novelist whose impending knighthood is threatened when his accused of a shocking crime, it continues until 26 February.
