A new £8,000 playwriting prize has been launched, open to new playwrights who work in the theatre industry.

The Writers in Theatre Award is open to UK residents of any age who have not had a play professionally produced, and have worked front of house, in administrative roles, on stage, backstage, or in a creative capacity for at least two years.

The WiT Award is launched by touring company Out of Joint and charitable trust the Experienced Theatre Practitioners Early Playwriting Trust.

Aspiring playwrights can submit full-length scripts, and one winner will receive a new play commission of £8,000, a development relationship with touring theatre company Out of Joint, a workshop with actors and a director, and a presentation in front of an audience.

Those wishing to submit their entry have until 2 March 2017, and can do so by visiting wit-award.com.
