Michael Barrymore Faces Festival Protest???

The father of Stuart Lubbock, the 31-year-old man who was found dead in Michael Barrymore‘s swimming pool, is planning to protest outside the opening of the former TV presenter’s Edinburgh Fringe show, Surviving Spike.

According to the Guardian, Terry Lubbock says his aim is to “stir up a hornet’s nest” ahead of an Independent Police Complaints Commission report into the incident, which occurred at Barrymore’s Essex home in March 2001. The protest will take place outside the Assembly Rooms, where Surviving Spike is due to begin previews later today (31 July 2008).

Lubbock has kept up a campaign since a 2002 enquiry into his son’s death returned an open verdict, awarding him £6,800 in criminal injuries compensation. He said: “I think there are a lot of unanswered questions and we have not scratched the surface yet”, adding that he hopes to “get as much publicity as possible and draw attention to the lack of justice that I have had so far”.

Surviving Spike focuses on the relationship between legendary comedian Spike Milligan and his manager Norma Farnes, played by Jill Halfpenny. It runs at the Assembly Rooms, George Street until 25 August 2008, prior to a speculated London transfer.
