West
End actor and singer-songwriter Darius Campbell (formerly Danesh)
will play Prince Charming in Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs at Glasgow’s King’s Theatre this Christmas.
The
show will run from Friday 03 December 2010 to Sunday 09 January 2011.
Campbell is understood to have been cast due to his high media
profile having been crowned the winner of ITV1’s Popstar
to Operastar earlier this year. The production is competing
with a rival pantomime in the city starring entertainer John
Barrowman and comedy duo The Krankies.
Campbell
said: “2010 continues to be an exciting and busy year that has
taken me from London to Paris and Capetown. It’s great to end the
year in the motherland in my home town of Glasgow.”
A
King’s spokesperson said: “We are very excited about Darius
joining us this Christmas for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It is
a huge coup for us as a venue and we are delighted to be able to
offer the people of Glasgow the opportunity of seeing one of their
best loved performers back home in a much loved theatre”.
Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs is being mounted by First Family
Entertainment – the pantomime arm of the venue’s owner, Ambassador
Theatre Group. The
production will be competing with Aladdin,
the 2010/2011 offering from producers Qdos at the city’s Clyde
Auditorium. This is believed to be the first time two large-scale
commercial pantomimes have gone head to head in Scotland’s largest
city. Aladdin will play from 10 December 2010 to 9 January
2011.
