3 August 2009

This August amongst the major openings in the North-East (Yorkshire region) are:

OPENING 31 July 2009 Howard and Mimi is presented at Stephen Joseph Theatre. Winner of Best Play at the Fringe Report Awards 2009, Caroline Gold’s light comedy is a witty exploration of gender issues. Howard (the sloppy hound) and Mimi (the sophisticated cat) meet when their owners Nick and Jane move in together. And so the household politics begin. Janine Birkett directs. The limited season continues until 28 August.

OPENING 19 August 2009, Our Day Out is presented at Hull Truck Theatre. A cast drawn from Hull Truck Youth Theatre take up the roles of a group of secondary school pupils, on a day’s coach trip to Conway Castle in Wales. Expect “bittersweet” writing from Willy Russell’s comedy, with the joys of growing up tempered by the depressing prospects of his young characters. Marks Rees directs. It runs until 22 August.
