Northern Stage
Newcastle

The greatest story telling leaves you wanting more, and more is what you want from Kate Fox News. The poet, comedienne, performer and story teller has an engaging style that belies the sometimes heartbreaking life story, that is also filled with some comedic moments that wouldn’t be out of place in a Brian Rix farce. Kate Fox News is being performed at Northern Stage and she readily admits to feeling that this is a coming home performance, although the North East isn’t her native home, She hails from Bradford; I think she has more than earned the honour of playing her adopted home town. Performing in an uncomplicated style that reminds us of ‘northern’ artistes, Willy Russell, Victoria Wood, Roger McGough and Alan Bennett; Fox delivers with energy and pathos in equal measure. I felt a times the pace was a little frenetic, and some tripping up of the words could have been avoided, but this is a very picky note in an evening of storytelling and poetry that is both funny, heartbreaking but most of all inspiring, for as she leaves the stage she reminds us that we all have a story.
