Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison has been cast to play a former drug addict in Rob Hayes’ new play Step 9 (of 12), which opens at Trafalgar Studios for a four-week run on 4 May 2012 (previews from 1 May).

The production will be directed by Tom Attenborough, whose recent credits include Port Authority at Southwark Playhouse starring Ardal O’Hanlon.

Step 9 (of 12) examines “society at its darkest times”. Keith (Harrison) just wants to say he’s sorry, and a lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse has given him a lot to apologise for – particularly to the two people who raised him from a child. But as the memories of violence, betrayal, lies and recriminations are raked to the surface, it becomes clear that past actions can have shocking repercussions in the present.

Blake Harrison played Neil Sutherland in the award-winning Channel 4 comedy The Inbetweeners, and has also recently appeared in The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff and Him & Her.

Writer Rob Hayes’ credits include A Butcher of Distinction, which opened at the Kings Head Theatre last year and was nominated for two Off West End Awards. Other plays include Selling Clive (Lost Theatre), Council (Royal Exchange Showcase), Sandy123 (Camden Roundhouse Studio), A Wake (Canal Cafe Theatre) and The Diabolic Banquet (Contact Theatre).

Further casting for Step 9 (of 12) is still to be announced.
