John Benfield
is a familiar face on TV, with appearances in programmes such as The
Bill, Holby City, Dalziel and Pascoe, Inside Out, and Prime Suspect. He plays Salter, the father, alongside Daniel Casey, in Caryl Churchill’s intriguing two-hander A Number, directed by Sarah Punshon, at the Library Theatre.
John gives us his five reasons for seeing this highly acclaimed production.
1: The play itself is a strange slant on love: in this case the
love of father and sons. Where does this love come from? What is it?
2: How does Caryl Churchill approach this broadest of questions in one hour?
3: “Your father’s not young when you’re small, is he? He’s not any age, he’s more a power.”
4: How does cloning fit into all this?
5: There are many reasons to see it, not least of which being you will not get another chance. Think on. Go!
John Benfield appears in A Number at the Library Theatre in Manchester between Thursday 23 April – Saturday 9 May. More information on 0161 236 7110 or visit the Library website.
